A fabulous antique Kurdish runner, hand woven circa 1900. The design features an all over geometrical design on a deep chocolate field encased by a simple camel coloured border. Lovely wool quality and great secondary colours of blues, greens, golds and reds. I love the way the main design changes a quarter of the way up and also the way the weaver couldn't quite work out the border at the bottom end! Bit wonky at the bottom end (it's 10cms wider) but full of charm and character.

A fabulous antique Karabagh rug, handwoven in the southern Caucasus mountains of modern day Azerbaijan circa 1900. The design features an offset medallion on an open red field and terracotta border. Lovely secondary colours including a beautiful green in the outer border. Note the way the weaver didn’t repeat the corner spandrels at the top of the rug.

An exceptional antique Gabbeh rug, handwoven by the nomadic Qashqai tribe circa 1900 with a geometrical design on a saffron yellow field and great secondary colours. Signed by the weaver, Galander Sed Gir. There are a couple of interesting elements within the design - the first is the way the diagonal design on the yellow field suddenly stops which would indicate that the weaver changed her mind whilst weaving the rug. The second is in the bottom left of the rug where the numbers ‘123’ are woven - no idea what this may signify but I would love to know what was going on in her mind! A fantastic example of tribal art.

A very fine vintage silk Qum rug, woven in the last quarter of the 20th Century. This rug features a traditional garden design with interlocking trees, flowers and a variety of wildlife, including a couple of deer, on an ivory field and beautiful soft green border. Lovely silk quality and some fabulous secondary colours including pinks, greens and golds make this a very decorative rug. Exceptionally finely woven with 9x9 knots per centimetre, which means the rug has approximately 1.2 million knots.

This fabulous vintage Arts & Crafts carpet found it’s home in the Cotswolds!

There is more intrigue than fact about this rug! It’s Chinese, probably from Peking (Beijing) and woven in the mid 20th Century (I think!). I don’t know who the chap is but he’s in traditional dress and is carrying a turtle, symbolising wisdom and longevity. What I do know is that it is rather funky and I love it!
