In this blog I attempt to explain what I look for when judging whether a rug is a genuine antique or a copy.

There are many recent productions of rugs that attempt to recreate antiques of the past. Many are poorly executed and obviously copies, while others are extremely well done and often confuse even the experts!

However, there can be many clues as to the authenticity of a rug. These include (but is not limited to):

Weaving
Design
Colours and colour variation
Wear
The back

It is a particularly visual process I go through so I have done a short video about what I am looking at when assessing a rug.
